The Great Wall of Mutianyu Visit (hike or walk on the top after cable car transportation)
Mutianyu is a famous and moderate section of the Great Wall in Beijing. It is an ideal half day tour for Great Wall lovers. Because Simatai, Jinshanling and Jiankou are a bit too far from Beijing, too "wild" and physically much more challenging; The famous Badaling and Juyongguan are too crowded and commercial.
Situated in Huairou County, 72 km northeast of Beijing, Mutianyu Great Wall has been preserved intact. Vegetation and fruit trees are abundant. The scenic beauty in spring and autumn is excellent. And the Mutianyu Section is not so crowded as Badaling.
This three- kilometer stretch has 25 beacon towers, watch towers and lodging houses. Historically, the construction here required the largest number of laborers to construct and produced work of extremely high quality.
It requires a more rigorous walking along steep steps than Badaling, but the views are more striking and cable car service (optional) is available to take you to the top and even the option of an exhilarating toboggan ride back down. We will have lunch in a nice Chinese restaurant near the wall.
It takes 40 minutes hiking along the steps from the foot of the mountain to the top. But be aware that on the wall it also requires hiking up and down from one section to another if you wish to see several watch towers and parts of walls.
Difficulty of the tour:
* moderate
* You may have to walk along steep steps along the ups and downs of the wall, even though cable car can take you up to the hill top. Of course, you can also just take some short walk along flat section for sightseeing rather than walking far along ups & downs of the walk.
* If you wish to hike from the bottom of the hill, then it is moderate hike along steps.
The Olympic Venues area and Park
We will stop at (not walk inside) the Olympic Venues - Olympic Swim Center (Water Cube) and the Stadium (Bird's Nest). You can walk around and catch a glimpse of these architectural wonders and take photographs. In the end, the coach will return to CCC.
Where we meet: China Culture Center, No.29, Liangmaqiao Road, Chaoyang District, Beijing, China.
It is convenient to go to the Wall from CCC, which is near the Fourth Ring Road Jingcheng express way linking to the expressway to all different sections of the Great Wall in the north suburb of Beijing. We suggest you bringing a printed CCC map with you when coming to our office, in case you need assistance with directions.
