Great Wall Mutianyu & Ming Tombs

Mutianyu Section of the Great Wall is a famous and ideal selection of the Great Wall if you look for a half-day tour to the Great Wall with moderate hiking. Other sections of the Wall like Simatai,  Jinshanling and Jiankou are far from the centre of Beijing, too "wild" and physically more challenging; while the Badaling and Juyongguan sections are too crowded and commercial.

Situated in Huairou County, 72 km northeast of Beijing, Mutianyu Great Wall has been preserved intact. Vegetation and fruit trees are abundant. The scenic beauty in spring and autumn is excellent. And the Mutianyu Section is not so crowded as Badaling.

This three- kilometer stretch has 25 beacon towers, watch towers and lodging houses. Historically, the construction here required the largest number of laborers to construct and produced work of extremely high quality.

It requires a more rigorous climb than Badaling, but the views are more striking and cable car service (optional) is available to take you to the top and even the option of an exhilarating toboggan ride back down. We will have lunch in a nice Chinese restaurant near the wall.

It takes 40 minutes hiking along the steps from the foot of the mountain to the top. But be aware that on the wall it also requires hiking up and down from one section to another if you wish to see several watch towers and parts of walls.

    Ming Tombs
Then we will take another 1 hours' drive to the Ming Tombs, well preserved imperial tomb complex with over 500 years of history.  Located 60 Kilometers north of Beijing, this UNESCO-listed World Heritage Site consist of mausoleums of 13 Ming emperors.

Sacred Way (or Spirit Way) is the highlight of the tomb visit. The beautiful approach leading to the tomb complex are lined with stone animal, figure carings and willow trees. We will take 30 minutes\' walk along the imperial Sacred Way.

Changling, the first tomb of all, was constructed in 1409 and completed in 1427. Dingling is the only  tomb that opens the underground grave, but nothing is left there except some coffin reproductions. so we will take you to Changling, which has the most beautiful palace halls and courtyards and willow trees. The unearthed articfacts are all exhibited in Changling Tomb.

Great Wall and Ming Tomb history, architectural details and significances, as well as fengshui and custom will be elaborated in English by our guide .

Where we meet: China Culture Center, No.29, Liangmaqiao Road, Chaoyang District, Beijing, China.

It is convenient to go to the Wall from CCC, which is near the Fourth Ring Road Jingcheng express way linking to the expressway to all different sections of the Great Wall in the north suburb of Beijing. We suggest you bringing a printed CCC map with you when coming to our office, in case you need assistance with directions.

Please note that the traffic of Beijing is very busy during rush hours (7:30-9:30am) Monday to Friday.
So if you stay in a hotel in the very center of Beijing, within the 2nd Ring Road, e.g. Wangfujing area, then you may need over one hour – 1.5 hours to take a cab from to CCC (30-40 minutes during non-busy hours).
