Guizhou of Southwest China has long been remote, stagnant and backward, however, unspoiled by tourism development as seen in surrounding provinces such as Guangxi, Yunnan and Sichuan. Its relative isolation has made the region one of the best kept secrets in China; its stunning landscape, characterized by limestone karst hills, jagged peaks and terraced rice fields, as well as its colorful ethnic minority cultures that have made Guizhou a paradise for anthropologists, photographers and adventurous travelers.

This six day CCC tour will cover the highlights of western Guizhou (waterfall, Karst landscape and Old Han Chinese villages) and the southwestern Guizhou Miao ethnic villages in the mountains and valleys of Yungui Plateau - stunning landscapes and terraced rice fields, as well as its colorful ethnic minority cultures)

Suggested Itinerary

Day 1: Fly to Guiyang / Anshun
Beijing travelers: Fly from Beijing to Guiyang in the morning.
Shanghai travelers: Fly from Shanghai Hongqiao to Guiyang in the morning.
If you go from other locale, we will check the available flights from your locale to Guiyang.

Take morning flight to Guiyang, capital of Guizhou, have lunch, then drive to Anshun to see Asia' s largest and most beautiful waterfall-Huangguoshu Waterfall. Check in 4-star hotel, free time in the evening and stay overnight in Anshun.

Day 2 Anshun / Jichang Old Han Chinese village / Guiyang
Today's program highlights the remaining culture of the old Han (Chinese) ethnic group. The ancestors of these villagers migrated from Jiangxi Province to Guizhou Province in the Ming Dynasty. We drive for 1.5 hours to reach Jichang village. Women here are still dressed in traditional Ming dynasty costumes, and houses remain faithful to the Ming architectural styles. After lunch at the village, we watch a local opera performance, famed for the performers' symbolic masks. We hike to the Baotun village to explore the old Han villages. We drive back to Guiyang in the afternoon.

Day 3 Guiyang / Dazhai village / Guiyang
We spend the morning hiking through the Damochong Valley, an area of quaint villages, dense bamboo groves, and clear streams. We stop along the way and learn about the art of traditional papermaking. We will explore Dazhai Village, an enchanting maze of old wooden houses amongst green paddy fields. Afterwards we take a 3 hour hike through this area of quaint mountain villages. We drive back to Guiyang in late afternoon.

Day 4 Guiyang / Maomaohe Village / Leishan
Today, we drive 3 hours to Leishan County, the center of Miao culture in Southeast Guizhou. From Leishan, we hike half an hour to reach Maomaohe Village, which is known for its Long-Skirt Miao, a subgroup of the Miao ethnic minority group. Here, we are greeted with a welcome ceremony prepared by the local people. Later, we dine with them and gain a better understanding of their life and customs. Then we drive back to Leishan and stay the night in a hotel in Leishan Town.

Day 5 Leishan / Shuidian Village / Kaili
After breakfast, we drive to Shuidian Village. Hiking around the village, you may feel as though you are idling along a corridor of landscape paintings of limestone pinnacles set against terraced rice fields and picturesque villages. In the afternoon, we visit Datang Village, inhabited by Short-Skirt Miao, another subgroup of the Miao ethnic minority group. Datang is well known for its beautiful dancing and singing performances. The local villagers welcome our group with the same hospitality they would show their most important guests. We drive back to Kaili City in late afternoon.

Day 6 Kaili / Guiyang /Fly Out
Today we return to Guiyang in time for lunch. Depending on the schedule of our flights, we may have time to further explore the city before departing for the airport.
