"Beijing by Foot" is a guide book with forty walks, encompassing Beijing' s rich history and modern glory. Walks include iconic areas such as Tiananmen Square, the Temple of Heaven, the Forbidden City, and the Summer Palace, as well as lesser-known areas such as the Shichahai lake district, once the playground of princes, and the Legation Quarter, Beijing' s oldest diplomatic quarter, dating back to the end of the Second Opium War.

Modern Beijing is not ignored: the Olympic Park with its famous venues and The Egg (The National Grand Theater) are also featured. Other cards provide valuable background information on the Beijing City Walls, the components of a traditional courtyard house, and a list of the dramatis personae that have populated Beijing' s history.

Beijing resident and translator Eric Abrahamsen will give a talk on "Beijing by Foot." at CCC. Eric first came to China in 2001 as part of his undergraduate studies at the University of Washington. He has worked as a magazine editor, guidebook writer, freelance journalist and translator. Among others, his work has appeared in Harpers and The International Herald Tribune.

Venue: China Culture Center, Chaoyang District, Beijing, China.
