Spoken drama (huaju in Chinese) is basically western-style theatre that was imported from Europe and the United States, intially via Japan. While China has developed this intercultural form for over 100 years (The year 2007 is the centennial year of Chinese spoken drama).

The last over 10 years see the booming of China's drama. Many pioneer and experiment dramas have appeared on the capital stage.

Wu Xiaojiang, famous drama director in China, will give an overview of the development of spoken drama in China, the new style and genre and the impact of economic development on the content and artists in Beijing and Shanghai.

Wu is a guest professor of China Central Academy of Drama. He has given lectures on drama in the universities in the US and Europe.

The talk will be conducted in Chinese with English interpretation.
