Recently I took a visit to a friend, who had just recovered from an illness. He said: “I was quite busy recently with exercise besides my busy work but I wanted to maintain my energy.” I said: “that’s really good.” “But I still feel easy to get sick!" he kept on saying. “So, that’s not good enough.” I replied…
We always forget that health starts from the mind, the same with sickness. The heart-mind system is called the “King” in traditional Chinese medicine, which will balance and manage other organs and whole body. So, maintaining your mind in a wholesome range, and keeping the good quality of mental food are quite vital. We’d better consider everyday: how I think, what I read and listen to, what are their influences to my mind.
We always forget that we are what we eat and drink. It was also said in Chinese medicine: “the disease comes in through the mouth.” We should have better understanding about the food and deeper contact with the body, and see what the body really needs rather than what the desire wants. After we have eaten something, we should ask “how does my body feel” rather than “do I want more”.
We always fail to recognize that nature is part of ourselves, it is not only about tomorrow’s temperature or rain, but how we live and are influenced here and now. We should always remind ourselves how to let the mind, body and food match with the changing seasons, or even the changing days. “We are part of nature” is not just a declaration, but a true experience!
The health depends on many conditions, but first of all, is the depth of our insight.
