It seems more difficult for modern people to live in a complete world. The modern forms of living and existence instill the illusion of separate independence, which cultivates the habit of isolation. The more severance we have in mind the more separation we make in life. We should always ask: “are you from yourself?”
When we are having a meal, don’t separate the vegetables from the soil and sunshine. When we are washing, don’t separate the tap water from the river and stream. When we are driving on the street, don’t separate the car from the mine and crude oil. When we turn on the light, don’t separate electricity from burning coal or gas. When we put on a coat, don’t separate the clothes from plants and animals. When we are looking at the face in the mirror, don’t separate skin from flesh and blood. When we are printing the documents, don’t separate the paper from the forest. When we are typing with a computer, don’t separate working from breathing. When we try to calm down the breath, don’t separate each inhaling and exhaling from the state of body and mind. When we have an idea, don’t separate our thinking from others’ thoughts. When we are making a decision, don’t separate behavior from motives. When we are going to express something, don’t separate the words from the audience’s situation and understanding. If we meet a failure, don’t separate the current loss from the past causes and future attainment. If we have an achievement, don’t separate the success from either negative or positive conditions…
There will be nothing in our life outside this list. This is not just a reminder, but to ask for your determination.
Everybody wants to have a wholesome life, but do we have a wholesome mind? Only when possessing full awareness on inter-dependence, can we be content with gratitude to all and make a real decision of no-separation!
