For everything we do, there should be a proper state. It is proper, because it is good for the mind, breathing, the body and that which is being done.
The proper state of sitting is to sit in a relaxed posture but not collapsed and feel comfortable with breathing. The proper state of walking is to lift up your head and move your feet and legs with relaxed hip bones. The proper state of biking is to relax your shoulders and neck and combine with the body of the bike. During eating we should know we don’t hold the chopsticks or spoon too tight, and every chew is unhurried. An outstanding football player can always stay with his proper state – running fast with a relaxed body, control the ball with easy mind. What a swimming championship will tell you - A clear goal, relaxed body and wholesome breathing. And when you are dealing with a problem, the mind is beyond that problem, the body is not bounded by that problem, and the breathing is not blocked with that problem! All the proper states of doing depend on keeping clear awareness with balanced mind on the state of breathing, body and that which is being done.
To keep the body in relaxation is not difficult when we are aware of the tension of the body. To have wholesome breathing is not difficult when we are aware of the blocking of breath. To maintain the mind without stress is not difficult when we are aware of the arising of negative emotions.
They depend on each other and influence each other. The body’s relaxation can help better breathing; a better breathing can support the mind in balance. And when the mind is in balance, the body and breathing are easier to be at ease, and the thing will be well done.
The proper state is just a dependent arising. And the most proper state is to neither resist against improper state nor attach to the proper state : )
