When we stay at home, we feel we are the host. When we are away from home, we still feel we are the owner. Shall we ask ourselves: How can we own it? What can we hold consistently? What can we keep always?
The house which I’m living in now has been my home for 15 years. When I moved in 15 years ago, I didn’t feel I was the host yet. By decorating it, purchasing furniture for it, sitting in it, sleeping in it…I gradually have the feeling as a host become stronger and stronger, and even becomes part of me.
Sometimes something is fixed by its assembling, and becomes independent by its naming. Not only for a substance or a thing, but also for a concept.
When we welcome a guest to our home, at the moment he steps into the door, we know he will leave sooner or later. When we check into a hotel on a trip, we know we will depart sooner or later even though we are given the key of a comfortable room.
We understand that our mind and body are guests to this world, and this world is a guest to our mind and body. But seldom be aware that the mind or the body is also the guest to itself, the temporary assembling or naming is not the consistent address.
When we regard everything as a guest, we will not attach to any of them, at same time we will not forget to respect. When we recognize that everyone of us is a guest, we will not cling to the “self”, at the same time we should take more care of every moment of now.
