Life is like a dancing performance. On the stage, every dancer has a role. You might be a solo dancer or there’s a partner. With varied melody, you express with different postures, speed and movements. Sometime you play alone with yourself, sometime there might be some audiences. When you dance well, they may clap hands; when you miss some steps, they may whisper to each other; most of time, they just keep silence…
A good dancer has right concentration with proper breathing and relaxed body, along with the rhythm of dancing. When he starts to move, he knows starting. When he raises up arms, he knows raising. When he makes a tiny step, he knows tiny step. When he makes a big step, he knows big step. When he acts in a quicker step, he knows quicker step. When he acts in a slower step, he knows slower step. When he jumps up, he knows jumping and the feeling of jumping, when he falls down on the ground, he knows falling and feeling of touching ground. When he twists wrists, he knows clearly twisting. When he rotates body, he knows rotating. The dancer knows the movement clearly without clinging to any movement.
When he feels the sore of the calf, he is aware of sore. When he feels the pain of ankles, he is aware of pain. When he feels the rigid of back, he is aware of rigid. When he is happy with one motion, he is aware of “like”. When is not satisfied with one motion, he is aware of “dislike”. As same as the sensation in between. The dancer feels the body truly and keeps awareness on sensations without cling to any feelings or sensations.
When audiences give warm clapping to the performance, the dancer feels proud and wants more, at the same time he is aware of “greed” is emerging. When audiences make slight whisper, the dancer feels shamed and a little bit angry, at same time he is aware of “hatred” is emerging. The dancer keeps awareness on any emerging mental formations, while neither attaching to nor resisting against it.
On the stage of life, we may meet similar circumstances in different forms, when we can keep the “equal mind” (without clinging to anything) more continuously, we are able to unbound our life gradually and free from anxiety, fear or any other types of tensions.
